Hospice by the Sea Wins 2010 Caregiver Friendly Award from Today’s Caregiver Magazine

Hospice by the Sea, Inc. has received the 2010 Caregiver Friendly® Award in the media category from Today’s Caregiver, the first national magazine for family and professional caregivers.  The organization won for its user-friendly DVD, “A Lifeline for Caregivers,” designed to teach and enhance the skills of individuals caring for loved ones at home.  Versions of the DVD were produced in both English and Spanish. 

Caregiver Friendly awards, which celebrate outstanding products, services, books and media created to address the needs of caregivers, were presented last month during the Fort Lauderdale Fearless Caregiver Conference at the Bahia Mar Beach Resort.  Accepting on behalf of Hospice by the Sea was Pat O’Meara, Director of Corporate and Media Relations, who produced the DVD.  “Ensuring caregivers have the skills necessary to provide care for those who need help or are homebound is part of our organization’s mission.  It is gratifying to know we are able to help make their jobs easier, safer and more effective,” she said.

Gary Barg, Editor-in-Chief of Today’s Caregiver, cited the vital role caregivers play in providing patient care.  “The average caregiver is responsible for over $40,000 in health related expenditures each year, in either personal or directed funds.  This award is designed to help family caregivers recognize and reward those organizations who will care for them in the same manner as they care for their loved ones.”

Hospice by the Sea’s President and CEO, Paula J. Alderson, also attended the award event, as did several key members of the team that created the award-winning DVD.  “I commend you for your persistence, commitment, excellence and focus,” she said, praising their efforts. “This project was challenging, and I could not be more proud of our team or the final product.”
