Palliative care centers on comfort. It's designed to help patients and families facing any serious or chronic illness, and can be provided at any stage of disease, from diagnosis on.  It can also be combined with curative treatments.

Our hospital-based program, Harbor Palliative Care Services, strives to achieve total comfort for patients and their loved ones. We excel in controlling pain and other physical symptoms that are difficult to manage. We also work closely with patients and families on coping with the psychological aspects of their illness. Our ultimate goal is to ease suffering and enrich quality of life.

In delivering services, we take an interdisciplinary approach. Our team consists of physicians, nurses, and psychosocial counselors, all educated and experienced in palliative care.

The palliative care team:

• Evaluates and treats patients' pain and symptoms
• Advises and supports patients and their families on treatment options, and emotional and spiritual issues
