Hospice by the Sea Celebrated the

35th Annual Nursing Assistants Week

June 14 - 21, 2012

Thirty-five years ago, the week of June 14 – 21, 2012 was designated National Nursing Assistants Week to pay tribute to Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) who have dedicated their lives to the well-being of others.

Hospice by the Sea, Inc. honored the work of 90 Certified Nursing Assistants during a “Peer Recognition” ceremony held June 14th, National Career Nursing Assistants’ Day, at the Boca Care Center.

Seven dedicated professionals were selected by their peers to receive a special acknowledgement. They were Leone Derilu and Fallieres Paris from Broward County; Marie F. Pierre and Viergenie Aime from Palm Beach County, Sara Scott from the Hollywood Care Center, Serge Lucien from the Boca Care Center and Coleen Taylor from FocusCare, Hospice by the Sea’s home health agency.

CNAs are an integral part of the Hospice by the Sea multidisciplinary team. They provide for each patient’s personal needs and are essential to a patient’s sense of well-being. “They bring a gentle touch, a caring heart, and the unique ability to listen as they attend to their patient needs. These are the special gifts that our CNAs bring to every visit.” explained Paula J. Alderson, President and CEO. “Every life has a story; every story needs to be heard.”Certified Nursing Assistants bring continuity and stability to their patient’s lives.

The daily conscientious, hands-on care they deliver enhances the physical and emotional well-being of all patients, and especially, frail and aging patients. CNAs carry out daily responsibilities with kindness and concern.

In the month of May, more than 8,000 baths were given to patients by Hospice by the Sea’s CNAs.
